Are we going to lose another piece of Americana??? Recently there have been several articles/letters written about the dangers of eating hotdogs (processed meats) yet I have yet to see anything in these writings that tells us just how or what is the connection. The “American Institute for Cancer Research” re-ports that there is a link between eating processed meats and colorectal cancer which includes hotdogs, probably our number one seller. Let me interject here and say that my wife’s death was initially caused by colorectal cancer. “In this day and age, every–thing we do is either immoral, illegal or causes cancer”.
Processed meats are the mainstay of our countries lunches. The Earl of Sandwich must be spinning in his grave now. The way I understand “processed meats” means any meat that has been slaughtered and put up for sale to eat. Any bird, animal, fish or other living thing still roaming the earth must be considered un-processed. Eliminating all of the above means we don’t have much left to make a sandwich with accept good old peanut butter and jelly, but then, someone will come up with a study that claims jelly causes diabetes and peanut butter is to oily and fatty.
The American Cancer Society and other medical research organizations like it are too quick to judge and release their study findings. Research on other dreaded deseses have not only come up with causes, but have also come up with treatments and cures. In 60 to 70 years cancer reasearch has come up with practically nothing to treat or cure cancers and then the treatments they do have are worse than the disease. If the cancer doesn’t kill the patient the side affects of the treatments do. The ratio of cancer cases to cures is absurd. My own opinion of cancer research is they are dragging their feet so every one working in that field won’t lose their jobs. Like everything else, it’s all about the money.
